Raquel Rolnik’s official nomination

Habitat International Coalition would like to congratulate Raquel Rolnik for her nomination for the United Nations Special Rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, and on the right to non-discrimination in this context.

Today, Wednesday 26 March, the UN Human Rights Council has just confirmed Raquel Rolnik’s nomination as the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing.

We are very satisfied with this decision, and we propose you a brief presentation of this woman very committed to housing and land rights.

Raquel Rolnik

. Brazilian architect and urbanist, she was born in São Paulo, city where she is actual resident. She got her diploma at São Paulo University, but has also studied at the Department of History of the New York University.

. She has been working as Professor of Urban Planning at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas.

. She is International Consultant for Urban and Housing Policies.

. She has worked as Secretary of the City Urban Programs National Ministry in Brazil.

. She has written a lot of articles about urbanistic studies, on housing issues and has published books « O que é cidade » (Brasiliense) and “A cidade e a Lei” (Studio Nobel).
