Motion of rejection to the steel factory in the city of San Luis, Maranhao, Brazil

The General Assembly of Habitat International Coalition, held in Cairo the 6 September, 2005 approved the motion of rejection to the installation of the steel factory in the city of San Luis, Maranhao, Brazil.

Such undertaking affects more than 3500 families that will be evicted for the said factory, violating the Right to Housing of several traditional communities of the island. It will also affect the whole ecosystem of the island with high levels of contamination of the natural resources and will concern all the local population.

HIC defends a city for all, without evictions and with sustainability.
