Mega-events: Urban Impacts and Human Rights Violations

The seminar "Mega-events: Urban Impacts and Human Rights Violations in the sports mega-events” was held in São Paulo, in November 8-9. The event was promoted by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing, in partnership with the Faculty of Laws and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the São Paulo University (USP). About 100 people attended the activities.

Academics and representatives of Brazilian civil society organizations of the host cities of the 2014 World Cup were present as well as researchers from Greece, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Moreover, the public could watch a film specially recorded for the seminar, in which the former Rapporteur Miloon Kothari and Shivani Chaudhry, both from the Housing and Land Rights Network, India, speak about the Commonwealth Games held this year in New Delhi .
