HIC participation during the 58th Session UN Commission on Social Development

10th -19th February 2020, New York (More information available here)

Following HIC’s side event “Addressing inequalities and challenges to social inclusion: Housing and evictions, Extractive Industries and land grabbing” during the 57th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD) in New York in February 2019 (full report available here), and given the fact that the priority for the next session is on Affordable housing and social protection systems for all to end homelessness, HIC is planning to host a side event titled: “Affordable Housing: Key to ending Homelessness”.

This strategy is a follow up to HIC’s continuous engagement with UNDESA and is coordinated by the African representative of HIC’s Board Dr. Mrs Ifeyinwa Ofong and Habitat International Coalition General Secretariat.

The following sub- topics were identified for four speakers.

  • Human Rights Habitat approach
  • Housing Finance and Incremental Housing
  • Social Production of housing to address homelessness.
  • Drivers of Homelessness (Evictions, Violence against women, Poverty, Inequality, etc)

HIC can also present oral and written statements to be delivered during the session.

HIC Members interested in this process can contact the General Secretariat at gs@hic-net.org
