DMB NRW calls for social housing provision for all

At the occasion of world habitat / tenants day the DMB NRW reminds the
NRW state government on it’s political duties for socially organized
housing. These duties are even based in international law, especially
the convenont on ESC rights.

The housing policies of the present state government endangers the
sustainable safety of social housing supply and therfore the right to
housing, DMB NRW chairman Bernhard v. Grünberg stated. Among the
gorvernment’s action directed against tenants he mentioned:

– The abolishment of the state regulation on evcitions after a condo
conversion.
– The planned sale of the state owned housing company LEG
– The planned change of the states’ constitution which will destroy the
fundament of municipal housing companies

An adaequat stock of rental housing builds the fundemant for the rigts
to housing and the freedom of choice in housing, Mr. Grünberg said.
Rental housing ist modern and meets the today demands for more
flexibilty by young and elderly people.

A high portion of rental housing in public ownership even makes the
economy less vulnerable for speculative housing and morgage bubbles,
which on the case of the US crash affects the whole world economy.
Housing in public ownership limits the influence of speculative locusts,
which is among the main reasons for the horrible increase of forced
evictions and undecent housing contitions in the world”.
